On Thursday the children from our 3 and 4 year old Kindergarten participated in a woodwork incursion. The children were eager to discover just how wood is sourced and how many living things use our native trees for their homes, food and natural habitat.

Firstly, we discussed safety with tools, the names of different tools and their purpose, we even had the chance to measure ourselves with the tape measures. Soon enough, after our demonstration it was time to put our construction skills to the test, wearing our safety goggles, ear muffs we were ready to build.

Our Kookaburras children created animals, using different sized wood shapes, dowel, glue and stickers, before exploring our own imagination and creating different items with scrap wood and materials. We were so proud of our Kookaburras for their confidence and building skills. The Wallabies children designed their very own bird feeding house, which required our confident Wallabies to use an electric screwdriver, hammers and differing wood materials.

Thank you to Jim for such a wonderful and educational lesson, we look forward to continuing our interests with wood work.
