National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

What is National Reconciliation Week?
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Our vision for reconciliation at Inspired
We value the knowledge shared by community members. We recognise our Elders as knowledge bearers’ and strive to learn while educating our children, educators, families, and extended community.

Our vision for reconciliation is to create an environment where Indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, heritages and perspectives culture and representation is embedded in our everyday practice and teachings. We hope that by educating our children and families we can foster growth, learning and development within our community.

Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which we learn and play, the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. We recognise their continuing connection to the land and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.

We look forward to sharing our discussions, intentional arts and crafts and commitment to reconciliation in the coming weeks via our Social Media platforms, Xplor and Blog.

Have you seen Play School’s discussion on racism?
Join Rachael and Luke as they speak about racism; what it is, how it makes people feel and how we can all play a part in stopping it. Play School has always welcomed opportunities to discuss the importance of respect and kindness. Perhaps this message will help facilitate further discussion about treating everyone fairly and equally.
