Colour Monster OobleckOur Possums children recently had the opportunity to explore – creating their very own colour monster inspired oobleck sensory bags. Through this activity, our Possums children were able to:
1. Explore different senses: The oobleck provided a tactile experience, allowing the children to feel the mixture’s unique consistency.
2. Support cognitive development: The process of making and manipulating the oobleck helps children to build new connections in their brains, enhancing their understanding of the world around them.
DIY Oobleck Recipe:
- 1 cup of cornstarch
- 3/4 cup water
- Food colouring (optional)
- Plastic bowl
Steps:
Add the dry cornstarch to a bowl and add a few drops of food colouring, mix these together, slowly add the water into the bowl and continue mixing (it takes approximately 6 – 8 minutes of mixing to create the correct consistency).
Note: Be sure to throw the oobleck in the thrash.. Do not pour it down the drain. It may separate and become a hard clump of cornstarch!
