What are the most beautiful and delicate creatures on Earth? If you answered butterflies without thinking twice, you’ve come to the right place!
The Wallabies Kindergarten children engaged in a butterfly encounters incursion.
During this incursion we discovered and learnt about the life cycles of butterflies and how they live in the world. Our children were invited to dress in beautiful colours and discover the different body parts of a butterfly. We excitedly read a story to understand how ‘A Butterfly is Born’. Throughout our discussions the children were amazed to discover how caterpillars build their cocoon and turn into a butterfly. The children also learnt that black dots on the Monarch butterfly mean it’s a boy and no dots mean it’s a girl.
We also discovered that butterflies have 6 legs and that they use their antennas to smell and taste their food. The children engaged in collaborative discussions as we answered a variety of questions, shared our different thoughts and ideas and discovered the wonderful world of Butterflies. Our favourite activity during the butterfly encounter experience was definitely in our very own butterfly tent, we were invited to enjoy a close up experience with the butterflies. The smiles on the faces express the fun and enjoyment during this incursion.
